NCAA Basketball Lines: Seton Hall Pirates and Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Eli Carter - NCAA Basketball Lines: Seton Hall Pirates and Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Coaches Mike Rice of Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Kevin Willard of Seton Hall Pirates were both ejected from the last game of their struggling teams. Rutgers is 1-4 in its last five and Seton Hall has dropped six straight. Rutgers has an outstanding freshman backcourt in Myles Mack and Eli Carter, but has struggled inside and is 15th in the Big East in assist/turnover ratio. Seton Hall hopes to get leading scorer Herb Pope (bruised ribs, questionable) back inside and for point guard Jordan Theodore to break out of a slump. Rutgers is 3-2 at home and Seton Hall 1-5 on the road in league play.

The Scarlet Knights have opened as 1-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.

Seton Hall Pirates (15-8): The Pirates shot a season-low 25.9 percent in the loss to UConn on Saturday without Pope, who was injured in the previous game against Marquette. Pope and Fuquan Edwin, who leads the nation in steals at 3.1 per game, have not shot well of late and Theodore has really struggled. Theodore, a senior, is shooting 26.7 percent during the losing streak and his turnover/assist ratio has decreased. The Pirates’ schedule down the stretch is not as difficult; they just need to find the rhythm they had during their 15-2 start.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights (12-12): The Scarlet Knights were outrebounded 40-25 in their last game against Louisville, giving up 18 second-chance points. Carter, even though he has not been in double figures two of his last four games, averages 13.8 points to lead the team and Mack (10.5) is next. The Knights need more from forward Gilvydas Biruta, who has scored in double figures just once since Jan. 1. Versatile Dane Miller, who is shooting 50.4 percent from the field and leads the team in rebounding, could provide more offense as well.

NCAA Basketball Betting

1. Seton Hall leads the series between the New Jersey schools 34-26, but dropped two of three to Rutgers last season.

2. Rutgers is 1-6 in games decided by fewer than six points.

3. Edwin would be the first Big East player to lead the nation in steals if he stays on top.
